How Many Hashtags Should We Use In Our Instagram Captions?
30 is the new 20! And yes, I’m talking about hashtags on Instagram!
Using hashtags was a mystery to me when I first got started on Instagram, but after a little research and experimentation, I got amazing results in the reach of my stories and captions.
Importantly, hashtags shouldn’t be used randomly or haphazardly! A little strategy goes a long way.
How many Hashtags Should I use in my Captions?
The magic number is 30! Use 30 well researched hashtags in each of your captions. If you prefer to keep your hashtags out your caption, add them in the first comment instead.
Some brands do use fewer than 30, but I recommend 30 hashtags per post if you want to see real growth on your account.
But wait! There’s More!
Break down these 30 hashtags into 3 groups of 10. And this is where the hashtag research you’ve done comes into play.
Your first set of 10 hashtags should be based on the topic of your post - for example, a product you’re selling or a destination you’re talking about
The second set of 10 should be targeted to your dream client and who you want to read your post
The final 10 hashtags should be based on what you do/your area of expertise
Research new hashtags every 3 to 6 months to ensure none of the hashtags you’re using have been banned. Using banned hashtags will damage your account.
Finally, create a library of at least 3 sets of 30 hashtags. You want to avoid repetitively using the same hashtags. Keep you Instagram healthy by alternatively plugging in one of your 3 sets of relevant hashtags for each post, and you’re good to go!
