Hashtags: 5 Tips on How to Uplevel Your Instagram Game
Before I started my biz, I had no clue what a hashtag was.
Okay, so maybe I knew what one looked like and that it was pretty cool to put a hashtag at the end of a post.
But I had no idea the potential in knowing which hashtags to use AND how engaging with hashtags could grow my biz. And by growing my business I’m talking about
more followers
more ideal clients
more business growth.
Engaging on hashtags is the number one way to attract more followers and bring in more ideal clients. I experienced the amazing results first hand when I applied these 5 tips to my own business.
So if you’re like me and ready to stop wasting valuable time on Instagram without getting anywhere, it’s time to discover the magic of hashtags!
What are the secrets to choosing and using the right hashtags?
Tip 1: Find out which hashtags your current ideal clients use.
This tip ties in with Tip 3! Go onto your follower’s and ideal client’s accounts and make a list of which hashtags they’re using.
Tip 2: Make a list of hashtags related to what you do and what you specialise in.
You’ll use these for your captions! Choose hashtags that have between 5,000 and 50,000 followers.
Tip 3: Engage on the posts within those hashtags.
Once you’ve found relevant hashtags, go to Recent Posts and Top Posts under those hashtags and engage, engage, engage! Do the same on the stories under these hashtags too.
I’ve found that engaging on my current ideal client’s hashtags is so much more useful than just searching for random hashtags. It really sets me on the right path.
Tip 4: Set aside 10 - 20 minutes each day to engage on hashtags.
Use these minutes to focus solely on hashtag engagement.
Tip 5: Attach 30 hashtags to the end of each Instagram caption.
Now it’s time to make use of the research you’ve done on your ideal clients and followers AS WELL AS hashtags related to what you do.
Break down the 30 hashtags into 3 groups of 10.
10 hashtags should be based on what you do specifically
10 should be based on what your dream client does
10 should be based on a broader range of what you do.
Attach your hashtags to the end of your caption or as the first comment to draw the right attention to your post!
IMPORTANT! Don’t keep using the same group of hashtags every time you post. Instagram might label you as a spammer. Instead, create a library of 3 sets of 30 well-researched hashtags and alternate the sets every time you post.
Researching and engaging on hashtags can be time consuming, but it’s SO worth it! This is just one of the strategies I implement for my clients and I’ve seen incredible results.
